In lieu of trolls, the four post-scratch kids interact online with two alien cherubs, the siblings Calliope and Caliborn. The post-scratch version of Earth quickly becomes dominated by the Condesce, the sinister former troll empress now in service to Lord English. She leads her three friends Roxy Lalonde, Dirk Strider, and Jake English – the mother, brother, and grandfather of Rose, Dave, and Jade, respectively – through their own session of the game, while the original humans and surviving trolls journey through dimensions to the new post-scratch session over the course of three years. As a result, John's late grandmother, Jane Crocker, is fifteen years old and the protagonist of the new arc. From Doc Scratch, the kids learn about a game mechanism called the "Scratch" that allows the humans to reset their session to escape Jack but will also inadvertently summon Lord English, Doc Scratch's master who seeks dominion over all of reality.Įxecuting the Scratch resets the kids' universe, and versions of themselves become guardians to a new group of players, who are versions of their own ancestors. Rising tensions among the trolls eventually boil over, and some begin to attack and kill others almost half the group (including Vriska) dies before Karkat manages to restore order. However, Vriska sabotages key events which results in the kids' accidentally empowering Jack Noir from a simple adversary to a seemingly-invincible monster. Returning to the present, the two species cooperate to salvage the kids' game session. Before they can claim their prize, they are attacked by Jack Noir and forced into hiding, where they begin to troll the kids via a chat program.Įach of the twelve trolls is associated to a western zodiac sign and a color The trolls win their session and a new universe – the universe the kids inhabit – is created. The group and troll society as a whole is manipulated by the enigmatic Doc Scratch, who serves an even more mysterious master. The narrative shifts to a side story arc about the trolls and the specific sequence of events that led this group to play their own session of the game. Among them, Karkat Vantas, Kanaya Maryam, Terezi Pyrope, and Vriska Serket each develop a relationship with the four humans, and the trolls are revealed to be an alien species simply called "trolls". As this is ongoing, John and his friends are also harassed by a group of twelve Internet trolls whose own session of Sburb was a failure that they blame the kids for. John and his friends are attacked by a ruthless villain known as Jack Noir while exploring the game world. John's friends Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley join him in the game along with their guardians, and they learn that playing the game has inadvertently triggered the destruction of Earth and that they must beat Sburb to create a new universe. Installing the game on his computer triggers a real life meteor storm, which he survives only by being transported to another dimension within the gameworld. In 2009, on thirteen-year-old John Egbert's birthday, he receives a beta copy of an upcoming computer game, Sburb. Despite all that, I've yet to be given a clear and fair path to compliance.ĭid I mention I'm the only woman in ICE custody in this whole jail? Tell me I'm special without telling me I'm special. I did not break a single one of New York state's or ICE's parole rules. I served my prison sentence, but I'm appealing my criminal conviction to clear my name. My visa overstay was unintentional and largely out of my control. I also accomplished more in the six weeks they deemed were long enough for me to remain free than some people have in the past two years. While I was in prison, I paid off the restitution from my criminal case in full to the banks I took money from. I am here because Immigration and Customs Enforcement decided that my early merit release from prison means nothing to them and, despite being perfectly self-sufficient when left to my own (legal) devices, I, in fact, present "a continuous danger to the community." Apparently, Daily Mail headlines are admissible evidence that override the decisions of the New York State Board of Parole and can be used to back up the Department of Homeland Security's arguments that instead of getting a job, I was "busy getting my hair done" - me and my bad ways. She served about another two years at Albion Correctional Facility in upstate New York until her release in February 2021. Police arrested Sorokin in 2017, and she spent about two years in jail on Rikers Island before her jury conviction. The show traces how Sorokin grafted herself onto Manhattan's business and art worlds by claiming she had a $60 million trust fund in Europe, scammed her way through expensive trips, hotels, and restaurants, while leaving everyone else with the bills, and the elaborate lengths she went to keep her operation going. Julia Garner, who plays Sorokin, has said she and producer Shonda Rhimes visited Sorokin in prison while preparing the show. On February 11, Netflix will release "Inventing Anna," a nine-episode limited series based on Sorokin's exploits and the journalist Jessica Pressler's New York magazine article that made her famous. Her lawyer said she was trying to fake it 'til she made it. Sorokin said she had a legitimate business plan for a project called the Anna Delvey Foundation. What really makes Gigabyte's iteration unique is its WindForce 2X cooler, which employs dual 75mm ultra quiet PWM fans connected to a custom shroud. Gigabyte has increased this to 1033MHz and 1098MHz, while the memory operates at the standard 6008MHz. Nvidia's specification for the base clock frequency is 980MHz, while the average boost clock speed is 1033MHz. Combine that with 2048MB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1502MHz (6008MHz DDR), and you end up with a bandwidth of 144.2GB/s, which isn't bad, though it is 33% less than the GTX 670, and that's where the performance difference lies. The memory subsystem remains the same as the GTX 660 Ti, with three 64-bit controllers for a 192-bit-wide bus. The TAU count has been reduced to 80 from the Ti's 112, while the ROPs remain the same at 24. The GTX 660's GPU has 960 CUDA cores (384 less than the GTX 660 Ti), 5 SMX units and 2 SMX units. At this length, Gigabyte's GTX 660 should fit in most ATX cases as it's much shorter than higher-end cards such as the HD 7950. The board's PCB measures 7.28" (18.5cm) long, which is quite compact on its own, but the cooler pushes that to 9.44" (24.0cm), the same length as the HD 7870 reference design. We received Gigabyte's take on the GTX 660 (GV-N660OC-2GD). This means PCBs and lengths can vary significantly between cards. Gigabyte GTX 660 in DetailĪs was the case with the GTX 660 Ti, there isn't an official Nvidia reference board for the GTX 660, leaving it up to manufacturing partners to create their own products. Naturally, we'll have to get our hands dirty before drawing any conclusions. Kepler has yet to disappoint us, so we are optimistic that the GTX 660 will provide an attractive alternative to AMD's sub-$250 lineup. The GTX 660 is based on the new 28nm GK106 architecture and although this part differs from the GK104 in Nvidia's Ti card, the GK106 still has all the key innovations introduced by the GTX 680.Ĭompared to the GTX 660 Ti, the non-Ti GPU has a lighter core configuration that will undoubtedly have an effect on performance – the upshot being a lower price, of course. As is often the case, Nvidia dominated the premium segment, while AMD had stronger footing in the mainstream.Įver eager to keep AMD on its toes, Nvidia continues its push into the mid-range market with a Kepler-based card that is expected to retail for about $230 – right in-between AMD's Radeon HD 78. This balanced things out, with products from both major GPU makers finding their rightful place in the market. The HD 7870's price dropped to $249, while the HD 7850 fell from $239 to $209 and the HD 7950 dipped from $349 to $319. Predictably, AMD neutralized that threat by slashing prices. Likewise, the GTX 660 Ti was 11% faster and more power efficient than the competing Radeon HD 7870 when testing at 1920x1200 on most games, despite matching it on price. At $299, the GK104-based GeForce GTX 660 Ti was $100 (~30%) cheaper than our previous favorite enthusiast-level graphics card, the GTX 670, while being just 13% slower.
